Happy first day of Spring! If you’re looking for an impressive yet EASY cake for your spring or Easter entertaining THIS IS IT!
I am a bundt cake pan collector! Every baker or entertainer needs a few! Why? Whether you’ve been baking for years or if you’re a novice baker- a good bundt cake pan will level the playing field! You won’t need to layer, level or fool around with crumb-coats and icing a cake which takes practice! The bundt cake pan will transform any cake recipe into a timeless and elegant work of art! This is the bundt cake pan I used for the cake I made- got it at William Sonoma!
So heavily grease the bundt cake pan with cooking spray- and transfer your batter into to the cake pan and bake (any recipe will do even a boxed cake mix).
While your cake is baking make your buttercream icing. I pretty much stick with Wilton’s buttercream recipe (medium consistency) for cake decorations- here’s the recipe http://www.wilton.com/buttercream-frosting/WLRECIP-41.html
After you’ve made your buttercream icing separate it into two bowls- transfer 1/4 of the icing into one bowl and the remaining 3/4 into the other bowl. Use food coloring to tint the small bowl green and the larger bowl yellow. Using a coupler and tip 233 transfer the green icing into a piping bag! This tip is so cool- it will pipe out grass! You could even make one of those trendy monster cakes if you have the patience to pipe an entire cake with it! Next we are going to use a Russian piping tip to make the flowers that crown the cake!!! These tips are amazing!!! They come with a flower design so you don’t need to have any skill level of cake decorating at all to use them! Just sqeeze by piping and pulling your icing bag up and gorgeous flowers will come out! I always feel like I’m cheating when I use them. You can get some on Amazon. Here’s what your piping bags should look like.
Once your cake is completely cooled and inverted onto a cake plate or cake board you can start decorating your cake. Pipe a border of grass around the bottom of the cake. Then pipe another border of grass around the top. Next use your Russian piping tip to make a crown of flowers around the top. You could also remove the grass tip and place a small leaf tip on the grease icing bag and secure it with the coupler and add leaves onto the flowers as finishing touches (optional).
I know decorating a cake can be intimidating- but you can do it! But please don’t take my word for it! Ask my fellow MOPS Group mamas (Mother’s Of Preschoolers.) I had the pleasure of teaching them some basic icing decorating skills using cookies this morning and they did so well! Check out their work! They practiced making grass and using Russian Tips as well hydrangeas and a basic swirl! Bravo mamas! Bravo!
