When you think of fall baking all kinds of delicious things with either apples or pumpkins come to mind. But you know what?! I think pears might just be my favorite fall fruit. When they’re ripe they’re bursting with the sweetest of juices even before they’ve been baked. Perfection right?!!!
So this fall I will be doing much more experimenting with pears starting with this super easy puff pastry dessert!
Here’s the recipe.
INGREDIENTS
- 3 large ripe pears
- 1/4 cup of white sugar
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 6 thin slices of butter
- 1 puff pastry sheet
- 1 egg white
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees. Grease a baking sheet lightly with cooking spray.
- Clean, slice in half and remove any seeds from the pears. Try and leave the stem intact.
- In a small bowl mix the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and set aside.
- Place the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and trace your pear halves with a sharp knife – make sure your pastry cut outs are about a 1/2 inch larger around the border than the actual pear.
- Place the pear puff pastry cut outs on your baking sheet and lay the butter slices in the middle of each pastry.
- Next roll the pears in the sugar mixture, then lay them on the puff pastries.
- Use the left over puff pastry dough to make leaves. I used a leaf pastry cutter to make mine. Assemble the leaves on the pastry.
- Next brush the leaves and edges of the puff pastry with the egg whites and sprinkle lightly with white sugar.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown!
- Let cool for 5 minutes then serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
I can’t wait to make this!!
Hi Nikki! Please let me know how it turned out!!!
