Hey y’ all!!! So one of my favorite things to do during this season is to give my front porch a little makeover with some fall décor! The other day I was outside and one of my neighbors told me my front porch reminded him what season it was. Being that we’re in Southern California- our seasons don’t change too drastically outside of the pumpkin spice flavors at restaurants and grocery stores. He said my porch, “begs a response.” I laughed. Then I thought about it and smiled. I really hope to be that house on the block that’s spreading light- reminding others about the beauty and festivity we do have to look forward to. So I’ll quickly share some of my tips on how you can make a little magic happen on your front porch.
- USE VINTAGE ITEMS TO SHOWCASE FALL FLOWERS.
My mother-in-love saved my husband’s tricycle and gave it back as a present to our sons. It’s the cutest red tricycle I’d ever seen clearly for sentimental reasons. I’m glad our son let his mama borrow it for few weeks to be a place-holder for my Mums. One of the things I love about Mums is that if you plant them in the ground they’ll come back the next year. Oh and I got the metal bucket from Hobby Lobby.
2. INCOROPRATE FAUX FLOWERS.
I got a few bushes of Mums for the front porch- but I used faux flowers to decorate my window boxes. I just felt like they were unbelievably gorgeous and practical being that I’ll need to redo the window boxes the day after Thanksgiving with winter florals. I also planted real cabbage in the containers- it’s a gorgeous vegetable that can be grown in containers during the fall.
- USE WALL DECOR
I’ve gotten signs from Target and even the 99ct store to hang outside on fences or place around the porch. They make little spaces super cozy.
- PLANT A FALL GARDEN.
I planted seasonal vegetables like pumpkins, broccoli , kale and cabbage in our garden. In addition to the blessing of growing your own organic food to keep your family healthy- I have to admit that the fall veggies really do add their own natural décor to the outdoors.
Portia,
