Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Recently, I was inspired to make people out of my pancakes. I like making food fun for the kids. We’ve made owls, dinosaurs, bunny rabbits and even bears out of our pancakes for fun. You can check out my YouTube for those tutorials. This time I wanted to make people. People made in God’s image. People with big curly hair and brown skin. People who when my kids looked into their faces would remind them of the beautiful skin they’re in. Keep reading to learn how to make pancake people.
It’s really easy to make pancake people. To start you need a good panacake recipe which I’ve attached to the end of this blog post. - Use black icing to make eyes OR place blueberries on top of banana slices to make eyes. You can add eyelashes with black icing or leave the eyes without lashes. I use store-bought black icing because I find it difficult to tint buttercream icing black without it tasting bitter. You can get black icing at most stores like Ralph’s or Target
- You can use grapes, blueberries or blackberries for the hair.
- I used black icing for the lips but you could use fruit such as a strawberry slice to make lips as well
- Pancakes can be in different shades of brown just like real people.
Portia’s Pancake Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 stick melted butter
Instructions
- In a medium-size bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients
- In a large bowl whisk together all the wet ingredients
- Pour the dry ingredients into the bowl of wet ingredients and whisk together until ingredients are thoroughly combined
- Grease a griddle with cooking spray and bring the meat to medium. Transfer batter into a Pyrex measuring cup and pour medium sized circles on pancake batter onto the griddle. Flip when the batter begins to butter. Allow to cook on the other side for 30 seconds then transfer to a plate.
- Serve warm with maple syrup and butter.
