Gone Glamping! Recently our family had the most special staycation at El Capitan Canyon in Santa Barbra where the beach and woods meet for a glamorous camping experience! I’ll be the first to admit, my husband and I are not exactly, “off the grid tent people!” So we fell in love with the idea of having a cabin in the woods adjacent to a river with a full bathroom, private bedroom for us and a three-bunk-bed loft for the kids! Our cabin also came with a picnic bench and fire-pit perfect for making s’mores and grilling dinner or anything for that matter.
Gone Glamping Day 1
Check out how excited we all were once we arrived at our cabin!
This was a special trip for our family for many reasons. We had never been camping together so this was a first-time bucket list experience for us all. This trip also served as a birthday present to our oldest son Blake. His trip to Legoland had been cancelled due to Covid so he couldn’t be happier to go camping instead. The drive up the coast was beautiful and was a gift in and of itself.
Like I said, El Capitain State Beach is only a 10-15 minute walk from the campsite, so we stopped at the beach before we checked into our cabin! The boys made a fort out of sticks and buried themselves in the sand. I also loved that the beach had easy to access showers and clean bathrooms.
After we checked into our cabin we changed clothes and walked to the Market, the campsite restaurant and store. We loved that the food was fresh and delicious! We learned that the Market also sells family meal kits that come with everything you need to make your own beef, fish or chicken campfire dinner and s’mores. We brought our own food for grilling but we may try that next time. I enjoyed the stroller walks in the woods to and from market while smelling wood burning and the river running.
Gone Glamping Day 2
On the second day of our trip we headed to the Market for breakfast first thing! I’d highly recommend the french toast. From there we hiked to the llama farm. The hike was so scenic with the ocean as a backdrop. Once we arrived to the llama farm the kids got to pet and feed goats, sheep, donkeys and llamas. Our hearts were so full!
That afternoon I got on the grill and made turkey burgers and turkey dogs for the kids. I made myself filet mingnon however! I mean if you’re gonna glamp might as well go all out!
After the hike, petting zoo and lunch the kids took a nap. When they woke up it was time for dinner. We ordered a pizza from the Market and took it to the beach where we caught the most beautiful sunset. Although we told the kids we were only going for a walk in the sand, the boys still managed to be completely covered in wet sand from to toe. Needless to say they left the beach that evening in their underwear LOL!
That night we intended to make s’mores for dessert but a raccoon trolled us at the cabin door so we made s’mores for breakfast instead.
A Solvang Road Trip- Day 3
It was time to go home! My husband was kind enough to allow one more adventure. We made a road trip to Solvang which was only a half hour away. The picturesque town reminds me of the “Little Town” from, “Beauty and the Beast.” We stopped at an Ostrich farm then headed into town where we walked up and down the street counting windmills and eating ice cream.
