Gorgeous Heart-Shaped Churros

I always have a , “back-up stash” of homemade chocolate chip cookie dough in the fridge for times when I’ve run out of dessert and I have no time to bake. Well we ran out of that the night before last. And running out of dessert puts our entire household into a complete state of emergency because I’ve spoiled my hubby and sons LOL! So with an hour’s time before I need to pick the kids up from school I’m rumbling through the fridge and freezer looking for something I can whip together super fast- that’s when I came across my last sheet of puff pastry!

Why not make heart-shaped, “churros?” I literally thawed out the puff pastry sheet and using my pastry cutter made 8 strips of which I made hearts out of 4 and left the remaining strips in the shape of the traditional churros.

Puff-Pastry Heart “Churros”

After baking them for 10 minutes. I brushed melted butter on them and rolled them in a cinnamon-sugar mix.

That’s it! With 4 ingredients and 15 minutes of prep time you can make Valentine’s Day “Churros!” Now of course as I used puff-pastry these don’t have all the pizzazz of the traditional Mexican churros made from homemade dough- but they come pretty close. The flaky buttery dough rolled in cinnamon and sugar hit the spot for my entire family! I chopped what berries I had on hand for good measure and a gorgeous presentation.

Puff Pastry Churros and Berries

You could simplify things a bit more and skip making hearts. Literally cutting the puff pastry into strips makes the more traditional looking churros.
